Udale Bay RSPB BIRD SANCTUARY  is an extensive area of mudflat, saltmarsh and wet grassland. The reserve supports large numbers of wildfowl and wading birds. Best visited within two hours of high tide, there can be spectacular views of flocks of birds. In AUTUMN, up to 5,000 wigeons feed on the beds of eel-grass. See ospreys fishing in the bay in late summer. Clootie Well  Clootie wells are places of pilgrimage in Celtic areas. They are wells or springs,
 almost always with a tree growing beside them, where strips of cloth or rags have been left,
usually tied to the branches of the tree as part of a healing ritual.
In Scots nomenclature, a "clootie" or "cloot" is a strip of cloth or rag.
